The 'Keeper of the Light' is a man of such dignity that one can't help but admire him. While reading this book that is almost a travelogue, I kept hoping that none of the very lovable characters were heading towards doom of any sort, and I have to thank Anita Nair for letting me keep my faith in humanity, and the belief that good things happen to good people. I don't know whether this book was meant to be a love story and/or a travelogue but it manages to be both. As this is the first of a trilogy, readers have something very interesting to look forward to - hopefully sooner rather than later.The pieces about pearl diving and the diamond mining are really descriptive, and are just an example of the depth of research that has gone into the making of this book.
